As you may know, a portion of the subsidy received by universities from the state budget is allocated to support the statutory research projects of academic units. The amount of funding awarded depends on the number of points earned in the parametric evaluation, making it crucial for units to understand the scoring system outlined by the Office for Science. The detailed regulations are available on the GUMed Extranet: link.
The Technology Transfer Center (CTT) awards points based on:
- Patent applications and granted patents,
- Utility models, trademarks, and industrial designs,
- Submitted research findings with commercialization potential.
Key Patent Scoring Guidelines for 2023
- Patent granted by the Polish Patent Office (UPRP) to GUMed, where the inventor is a university employee:
- 200 points, 500 points if implemented.
- Patent granted by the European Patent Office (EPO) or other foreign office to GUMed, with the inventor as a university employee:

- Patent granted abroad or by UPRP to an entity other than the evaluated GUMed unit, with the inventor as a university employee:
- 100 points.
- Utility model protection, trademark rights, industrial design registration, or integrated circuit topography granted by UPRP or a foreign office to GUMed:
- 100 points, 200 points if applied in practice.
- Submission of research findings, development work, or know-how disclosure to CTT GUMed:
- 100 points.
- Patent application submitted to UPRP on behalf of GUMed:
- 50 points.
- International patent application submitted to UPRP on behalf of GUMed:
- 50 points.
- Revenue from commercialization of research results, confirmed by external entities:
- 100 points for every 20,000 PLN in revenue, up to a maximum of 500 points.
Why It Matters
Each research team is required to submit findings with commercialization potential to CTT, gaining 100 points per submission. A granted patent can yield up to 1000 points, depending on its market implementation. Understanding these rules allows for better strategic planning and maximization of funding for your research unit.
