2-methoxyestradiol (2-ME) – a natural metabolite of estrogen – in the treatment of mastocytosis, a rare disease associated with excessive accumulation of mast cells. 2-ME has the ability to selectively destroy cells with a KIT gene mutation while preserving healthy cells, opening up new possibilities in the treatment of this difficult and hitherto poorly addressed disease entity.
